Novar Case Study: Pan European SAP implementation

Novar plc was an international group (now part of Honeywell) whose core activities were Intelligent Building Systems, Indalex Aluminum Solutions and Security Printing Services, and a market cap of circa $1.5bn.  In the Intelligent Building Systems sector, the Company's activities included the manufacture of a wide range of electrical, electronic and control products for industrial, commercial and residential requirements, mainly in the UK, continental Europe and North America.  The main businesses of the Indalex Aluminum Solutions companies were the extrusion of engineered aluminium components in North America for diverse markets including information technology, consumer durables, electrical, building, construction and transportation.  In North America the Security Printing Services sector's activities included the production of cheques and other financial business forms and the provision of specialised services to financial institutions.

The business challenge

This complex business transformation programme involved the consolidation of four independent businesses operating in the same channels into a new single integrated entity aligned around specific customers.  A new ERP system was the backbone; but also a new CRM package, four integrated call centres and a warehousing and distribution system were integral to the solution.

Our approach

A single plan was derived that integrated the Process, Organisational and Technology changes required. A business leadership led Governance structure was established to manage all aspects of IT delivery, process re-engineering and organisational change. This drove the long and short list process for the ERP vendor, CRM, telephony/call centre solutions and warehousing solution. Using an accelerated proof of concept process the RFQ/RFT stage was reached in 4 weeks and the contracts awarded to the successful suppliers in 6 weeks. SAP was the ERP solution selected.
